How to escape eye ball hours...

I sat down with Christian von Essen (Heja Framtiden Podcast) during #Internetdagarna 2020 #IND20 to speak about “Self-development in Exponential Times” along with Tomas Björkman and Innocent Mugenga.

I spoke a bit about my personal job-route, in the middle of contemporary culture, gig- and attention economy, to understanding the mechanisms of creative work ---> to the importance of having an organisational structure that supports it. The time went quick so I thought I add something I didn’t have time to talk about:

Most of us now take part of an attention economy where we spend time online due to interests, passion, curiosity but also because of psychological vulnerabilities (if you haven't read #TristanHarris or seen the #SocialDilemma on Netflix, do it). We all have psychological vulnerabilities and we ALL get manipulated to spend more time on line. Just think about the difference of using social media when you are in a good vs. bad mood.

How can we work with this?

a) Meditation practice helps to be aware of one’s own patterns and be present enough to notice that you enter the pattern before you find yourself scrolling Instagram for 30 min.

b) Know your vulnerabilities and trigger points; therapy should be as natural as exercising your physical body. But of course, other conversations with room for vulnerability, a clear structure and emotional hygiene are very helpful as well.

c) Community - To balance fear and anxiety you need a community that is aligned with your deeper purpose in what you do, plus the perception that you actually have the ability to act on/from it to turn reality out of your higher purpose/calling.
